Research shows that old people are dying from loneliness – Do you visit your parents?
According to a study done by the University of California, proper companionship will help extend and improve the quality of life for the elderly.
A study was conducted by researching 1,600 adults with an average age of 71.It was concluded that isolation and loneliness hits much harder when we are older than when we are younger.
The adults in this study who were lonely had higher mortality rates than those who were not lonely. The conclusion is that when you are older companionship is much more important.
If you have older family members, be sure to visit them from time to time. We tend to get on with our lives and forget that although Mom, Dad and Grandma are always around when we need them, we do not consider them as much as we should.
It is important to realise that when their children have all grown and not around, the elderly tend to be much lonelier. If you value your parents and want them around for a long time, remember that throughout the world old people are literally dying from loneliness. There are so many reports of an old person lying dead in their homes for months and no one realises. This is shocking and unforgiveable for the children of these older people.
We should all do our best to make sure our parents are happy. They have done this for us all our lives and we owe it to them to give a little happiness back.
Visit them as often as you can and if you cannot then at least call them a few times a month.
