Baby Ostriches Being Killed For Designer Handbags

While there are numerous documentaries showing the horrific animal cruelty practices that are largely present in the food processing industry, not a lot of people know about the animals that are killed to be used for the luxury brands of the world, such as Hermes, Prada, and Louis Vuitton.

Investigators from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) made their way to South Africa in hopes of showing the world just how cruel these brands are and what they’re doing to animals such as ostriches to produce their luxury products.

Investigators witnessed workers shoving terrified ostriches into stun boxes before having their throats cut. Some workers were even seen joking and laughing about the cruel practices they engaged in on a regular basis.

“I’ll call the animal welfare officer just now,” said one plant director after a flock of ostriches began to tumble over one of their fallen kin.

It’s reported that feathers are often stripped from the birds’ skin while they are still alive and fully conscious. These feathers are often used for costumes and outfits put together for events such as Brazil’s Rio Carnival or for performers at the Moulin Rouge.

The video below shows just how inhumane and horrible these ostrich slaughter plants have become. Warning: the video contains footage that is graphic and may be disturbing to those who view it.
